They say “a picture is worth a thousand words” and they are not wrong! Now imagine the power of a Movie. Movies are a great way to experience new situations and meet people who don’t even exist. A great movie can make you know a place even if you never step your foot in it before. If you have no idea about Iran, Apochi recommends watching these movies before you travel. Remember, movies can be extremely useful in case of identifying the cultural behaviors of a nation.  So, here are TOP Movies to Watch before Traveling to Iran:

1

Don’t be tired!

Don’t be tired (Khast-e Nabashid in Persian) is one of the best movies to watch before traveling to Iran. This movie shows spectacular scenes of Lut Desert and its unique phenomena, Shahdad Kaluts and Qanatas (a series of deep and connected wells) in Kerman, Iran.

This movie is about a Canadian couple (Mariah and Ruman) who lost their child and now looking for a way to solace their souls. Mariah who was born in Iran and her Husband Roman decide to visit the desert and kaluts with two tour guides, Morteza and Hosein, but a series of unfortunate events are to come.

Beside the breath-taking shots of the desert landscapes, you can find out about the people of Kerman and their culture. If Kerman is your destination in Iran, don’t miss watching this movie. Other attractions of Kerman are Ganjali Khan Complex, Arg-e Bam, Shazdeh Garden, and Kerman Bazaar.

Another great movie to watch with the location of Lut Desert and Shahdad Kaluts is So Far, So Close by Reza Mir Karimi.

Dragon Arrives!

If you are into horror movies, this one is yours! Especially when it says ”based on a true story”.  And, no, Bruce Lee is not in it. Dragon Arrives! is a Mani Haghighi movie, starring Amir Jadidi. Although the story is fascinating enough, the background and location of this movie in Qeshm Island will catch your eye more than anything else.

The film is about the death of an exile on Qeshm Island, which is said to be Marxist-Leninist. A SAVAK officer goes to Qeshm to investigate the murder and finds out that this exile has been killed. He faces a strange phenomenon on the island. An earthquake occurs after the burial of every animal in a deserted cemetery. Locals say a dragon lives under the cemetery…

A huge Launch, wonderful sceneries of Chahkooh Canyons in Qeshm Island, classical clothes and items, and local traditions are things that you are going to get familiar with if you watch this movie.

This movie didn’t fail to show the beauties of Chahkooh Canyons, but there is much more on this island. Stars Valley, Mangrove Forests of Qeshm, Naz Islands, Hormuz Island, Namakdan Salt Cave, Kharbas Caves, Hengam Island, and Portuguese Castle are some of the best attractions of this magical island.

A Cube of Sugar

A Cube of Suger

Watch a Persian wedding, a Persian mourning ceremony, Persian food, Badgirs (windcatchers), and a happy Yazdi family with their musical accent in this sweet movie. Directed by one of the best writers and directors of Iran, Reza Mir Karimi, A Cube of Sugar is full of happy and sad moments. This famous Persian movie was produced in the beautiful and authentic city of Yazd, the only UNESCO World Heritage City in Iran.

The story is mainly about a Yazdi family and its youngest daughter’s wedding. The bride, Pasandideh, and her mother, uncle, and aunt live in an old house in a village. The wedding guests, which are Pasandideh’s sisters arrive one by one and each of them completes the story. The subplot of a Cube of Sugar is about a treasure-hunting by Pasandideh’s brother in law. You can truly see and feel a usual day of a Persian traditional family in this movie.

Although you can see the traditional Persian architecture elements like Badgir and traditional houses, you will not truly sense of Yazd. So you better arrange your travel to Iran and Yazd at the first convenient time! You can this right here on Apochi.com. Need more motivation to come to Yazd? See these attractions: Dolat Abad Garden, Zoroastrien's Dakhmeh (Towers of silence), Faahadaan, Zoroastrian Fire Temple, and Amir Chakhmaq Complex.

If you are not tired of Persian movies, try these films too: Too Far, Too Close, About Eli, a Separation, What’s the time in your world? Gilaneh, Children of Heaven, and Mother’s guests.
