Mosques, caravanserais and Fire temples dominate this desert city with an exotic atmosphere. On the edge of the Dashte Kalut desert lies the most populated Zoroastrian city of Iran, Kerman. The city is a melting pot of Persians and Baluchis (which are originally from the bordering province of Sistan and Baluchistan). Kerman is a city of ancient sights, as its surroundings too. See magnificent gardens in the deserts of Persian princesses, blue domes towering above the palm trees and a beautiful scenery!

What to do in Kerman?

Kerman is a city where you easily can spend 3 days, because both the city itself and the environment offers many interesting sights and places to you. Like the Zoroastrian temples in town, the incredible covered bazaar which is certainly city’s entrancing main highlight.
And not to forget the most beautiful places surround, Rayen and it’s wonderful huge citadel which is a bit a lookalike of the Bam citadel. Or go to Mahan, where the Shazdeh Garden of 5.5 hectares is located. The name Shazdeh Garden means Prince’s Garden and was built in 1850. It also has a beautiful residence in the middle of the garden existing of 2 floors, it’s beautiful lighted at night!
One of the natural highlights of Iran for sure are the Kaluts and the Shahdad desert, or better to say, the Grand Canyon of Iran! Especially the colors and rock formations are pretty similar to it. Walk around this open museum, and wait till the night is fallen to see how the sky changed into a star heaven.
Also the mausoleum of Shah Nematollah Vali is worth it seeing, its azure colored dome invites you to have a look inside of this serene and peaceful rest place. And last but not least, don’t forget to see the Jameh Mosque of Kerman (1394). But when you want to visit the place, wait till the night prayer and stand in front of the Ivan (entrance). People gather all together and the atmosphere while praying is magical with the beautiful Ivan on the background!

How To Get To Kerman?

By Car

There are many directions from where you can get to Kerman. The most famous routes are road 84 from Mirjaveh (Pakistan border) to Kerman and Rafsenjan. But notice that this road is also one of the most dangerous roads in Iran you can take because of it’s being a drugs route between Pakistan and Iran. whenever you drive here, remind that driving at daytime is advised. The other route (road 91) go’s from Minab in the south towards Feyzabad, with Kerman on the route. Of course Kerman can be also reached from other places, like Tehran or Shiraz by connecting roads to Shiraz and the Persian Gulf for example.

By Bus

By Plane

There are either domestic as international cities which do provide flights to Kerman.
