What to do in Tabriz?
Tabriz, once the capital of Iran and still the industrial economical heart of the country. But the city is also famous for its wonderful bazaar. In fact is this one of the oldest and the biggest bazaars in the world, to be specific the fine brick vaulting dates from the 15th century and the size of the place is 7 sq. meters! The bazaar counts 22 domed halls and 24 caravanserais, what shows that this city and especially the bazaar were the center of the old Silk Road. And visit the Blue Mosque, It’s also called Masjeed-e Kabud (bruised mosque), because of the earthquake in 1773 which badly damaged the whole structure, only left are the main Iwan (entrance hall) and the Jahan Shah’s tomb.get enchanted by the beautiful turquoise mosaics which certainly shows you what kind of powerful building it once was for this area. Or go to Shah-Goli (8 km southeast of the city center) called by the locals is the name of a large park in Tabriz. In the middle of the you will see a restaurant-pavilion which was used by the shah of the Qajar-era as his summer palace. Always and every season crowded with people.
But also out of Tabriz there’re many beautiful sights. Like Kandovan village, this stone age village is still alive. It’s also called the Cappadocia of Iran with its natural houses made in the rocks. Or climb Babak Castle (Qal’eh Babak in Persian) was a Azeri hero back in the 9th century who fought against the Arab invaders of Abbassids out of his castle. It’s a stunning mountain trail up to the castle, but not recommended for people afraid for heights! Anyways, the view is overwhelming.
