History of Seyyed Rokn Addin Mausoleum

Seyyed Rokn Addin Abolmakarem Mohammad Ghazi Hosseini Yazdi was one of the greatest erudite of Aboosaeid Bahador Khan’s time. He was the supreme judge of Yazd when he was alive. According to historical documents, he died in the year 732 in the Islamic calendar and was buried in Roknieh School. However, it is worth mentioning that the school was a part of a huge complex that used to include a library, mosque, hospital, traditional pharmacy, observatory, and a monastery. Sad to say, the mausoleum is the only structure that is left from the whole complex.

Structure of Seyyed Rokn Addin Mausoleum

Seyyed Rokn Addin Mausoleum has one entrance door and an eye-catching dome placed on a tall cylindrical neck structure. Architects, designers, and constructors of this mausoleum left the internal hall empty, without any rooms or architectural structures. Therefore, the spectacular simplicity of the mausoleum is one of its attractive points. On the other hand, the walls are decorated with different artistic designs like tiling, painting, gilding work, carving, and lime work. These decorations have undergone various renovations in recent years.
