What to do in Shushtar?
There are many things to do in Shushtar, the city is certainly not famous under foreign tourists. But it’s definitely a city worth it to visit on your trip to the warm and welcoming south!
Visit Shushtar UNESCO listed hydraulic water system, ‘the’ highlight of the city full of dams tunnels and canals which from some are said that they date from the times of Darius the great. Have a great view by climbing the hill behind to see the overwhelming powerful arc of water chutes that are just mesmerizing!
Also see Afzal Sara, which was a place for storage and transaction of corns, later it was converted into with 40 rooms, now it’s a place where they sell local handicrafts and other products from this region, especially at night it’s a great place to walk around the little shops and galleries.
Amazing Chogha zanbil is the main and one of the most important reasons for getting to Khuzestan. One of the view existent ziggurats (temples) outside of Mesopotamia. The huge edifice dates from 1250 BC and has been used for centuries to honor the god Inshushinak. Walk around the ziggurat and just admire it. Located just 44 km out of Shushtar!
